MADISON, Wis., February 5, 2023 — Logan’s Heart and Smiles is a proud recipient of a $30,000 Community Impact Grant from the Madison Community Foundation (MCF). With this grant, the volunteer-based nonprofit, helping construct accessible, safe homes for children with disabilities, is now able to hire their first full-time employee, Angela Wallace. Wallace will step into the role of Executive Director in coming months, where she will lead the organization alongside Logan’s Heart and Smiles founder, Joe Herr.
“I am excited for the opportunity to be able to dedicate my full attention to Logan’s Heart and Smiles. When thinking about where we started, where we are now, and where we want to be, the decision to officially hire staff became crucial in preparing the organization for growth and sustainability. I have been truly moved by the mission of this organization and honored to lead the team towards ongoing and long-term success,” said Wallace.
Founded in 2002, Logan’s Heart and Smiles has been helping families in need throughout southern Wisconsin, having completed over 200 projects including custom home modifications such as ramps, fences, handrails, bathroom modifications, accessible walkways, safety fencing, and more. By bringing on paid staff, Logan’s Heart and Smiles can begin to increase the number of families they help and better serve the Madison community.
“We’re incredibly grateful to be recipients for the MCF Community Impact grant. This is the catalyst that allows us [Logan’s Heart and Smiles] to hire Angela Wallace as our Executive Director and meet our staffing needs. We are truly at the beginning of our ability to grow and serve families in our community for years to come,” said Herr. “We look forward to embracing Wallace’s previous experience in building and construction as we take on more innovative and groundbreaking projects, and helping more families in need of custom home modifications.”
In December 2022, MCF announced that they awarded a total of $697,500 to 12 nonprofits throughout the Madison area. The grants address opportunities and support organizations in five focus areas: learning, community development, arts and culture, environment, and organizational capacity building.
